Special Laminated Products

The Design Opportunities are Endless

The laminating process provides almost limitless options in glass configurations. Combinations of solar control glass, special interlayers, Low E and coated glass, as well as decorative glass provide tailored solutions. Toughened laminated glass is also available for large overhead spans and additional safety in balustrades and where there is a risk of thermal break of annealed laminate specifications.

Walshs range of laminate glass products consists of two or more sheets of glass bonded together by vacuum and heat with an interlayer of either PVB or DuPont Sentry Guard. The result is a durable, adaptable high performance glazing material that can provide solutions to many architectural applications. The benefits of laminate products are follows:

  • Safety - When impacted, laminate is designed to remain intact or to break safely in such a way as to reduce injury; the glass fragments adhere strongly to the interlayer.
  • Security - standard laminated glass provides resistance to penetration from physical attack. By increasing the thickness of the interlayer and its strength, as well as using multiple glass interlayer constructions, products are offered for specialist security applications including bullet and bomb resistance.
  • Noise Control - Laminate glass reduces the level of noise with considerably greater efficiency than ordinary glass of the same thickness. This can be enhanced even further by incorporating an acoustic interlayer.
  • UV Elimination - the PVB interlayer eliminates 99% of ultraviolet radiation.
  • Solar Control & Thermal Insulation - Through the use of tinted glass or coloured interlayers and coated performance glass types, laminate glass configurations can offer a high level of solar control and thermal insulation to conform to specification requirements.
  • Colour and Decoration - translucent white interlayers along with printed glass designs.

The standard PVB interlayer thickness is 0.38mm. Also available are 0.76mm and 1.52mm for increased resistance to penetration and security applications. Toughened laminates require a 1.52mm interlayer to ensure the adhesion of the glass panels is structurally sound. Laminated glass edges left exposed are not recommended.

Walsh's Viewguard, is a laminate comprising of the Dupont Sentry Guard Plus Interlayer, which is a structural interlayer that comes in 1.52mm or 2.28mm in thickness. Perfect for frameless ballustrades, canopies and structural glass applications. Please note glass configurations are subject to engineering.

Considerations

  • Glass selection, glazing and manufacturing must be in accordance with Australian and New Zealand Standards. Certain applications such as Roof glazing, Frameless Balustrading require engineering.
  • The glazing system must allow for water drainage or be completely watertight.
  • Certain sealants may cause edge de-lamination such as linseed oil putty - neutral cure silicone sealants are recommended.
  • Warranty.
  • Walshs Glass Product Acceptance Criteria.
